As we approach the end of May, the days are getting warmer and “hot girl summer” is right around the corner! For many Ohioans, there is nothing better than lounging in the warm sun, getting some vitamin-D while sipping on a summer cocktail. But wait, there is something better… Adding cannabis to the cocktail!
At Ohio Marijuana Card, we always want to provide you with access to medical marijuana and up to date news on what is going on in the cannabis community but we also have a fun side to us too! We enjoy summer and cocktails just as much as you.
Today, we will be sharing some of our favorite cocktail recipes with you that are perfect welcoming in the summertime! Each cocktail can be made with alcohol alone or you can level it up a bit by adding your favorite cannabis tincture.
Let’s get this party started!
The Basics of Tinctures
Before we dive into our cocktails, let’s get into the deets about what tinctures are, how to properly use them and why they’re so great for making canna-cocktails at home!
What are tinctures?
In Ohio, tinctures are not the most common form you can purchase marijuana in since we have access to flower. But they are a very traditional medicinal form that many love!
Tinctures are an alcohol-based cannabis extract or marijuana-infused alcohol. They usually have a dropper that you can use to add the tincture to your food, drink or consume orally.
Tinctures were actually the original form of medical marijuana back before prohibition! Tinctures have stood the test of time since they’re easy to use and easy to dose.
How do I use tinctures?
The number one thing to remember when using a tincture is to start low and slow, just like with any other medical marijuana product. This will help you stay clear of those uncomfortable “highs” which can definitely spoil the summer fun!
If you’re new to using this product, it is better to start by using a 1 mL dose place directly under your tongue. Wait about 15-40 minutes to fully feel the effects. If this is a good dose for you, then great, you know your proper dosing for this tincture!
If it’s not strong enough, you can ramp up slowly. We suggest waiting at least a day before trying again with a slightly higher dosage to see the effects. This way you can avoid consuming too much and find that sweet spot that is the perfect dose for you!
Why do tincture work for canna-cocktails?
Using tinctures is the best and easiest way to make canna-cocktails!
One reason is because they’re easy to dose. Once you know the dose that you prefer, you can easily make a canna-cocktail and add the exact amount to it that you want. If you know you want only a single cocktail, you can put a whole dose in there. If you are more of a two plus kind of cocktailer, you can split up your dose per canna-cocktail. It is that easy!
Tinctures are also perfect for cocktails because they are alcohol-based. This makes them great to add to a cocktail and not throw off the recipe one bit!
