New Dispensary Coming to Painesville Township, Ohio

Exciting developments are underway in Painesville Township, Ohio, as marijuana dispensary group Amplify prepares to open a new dual-use dispensary in the area. Slated for late 2025 or early 2026, the new location at 2150 Mentor Avenue is expected to serve both medical marijuana patients and recreational customers, pending final county approvals and construction timelines.

This expansion marks a significant milestone for marijuana access in Lake County, and it’s another sign that Ohio’s marijuana landscape is rapidly evolving. As dispensaries like Amplify expand into more communities, now is the perfect time for Ohio residents to understand what this means for them, especially when it comes to choosing between recreational and medical marijuana access.

Amplify Sets Sights on Painesville Township

Amplify is no newcomer to the Ohio marijuana scene. Backed by Buckeye Relief, a leading marijuana cultivator and processor based in Eastlake, the company already operates successful dispensaries in Columbus, Bedford, and Cleveland Heights. Now, Amplify is bringing its highly professional, community-centered model to Painesville Township.

The planned location on Mentor Avenue will feature:

  • Interior retail space

  • Two drive-thru pick-up lanes

  • A product menu featuring high-quality marijuana from Eastlake

The drive-thru option is designed to streamline order pick-up and reduce traffic congestion, with online ordering and limited time slots to keep the process smooth and efficient. Retail Director AJ Caraballo emphasized the brand’s focus on destigmatizing marijuana through convenient, customer-friendly, and community-integrated retail experiences.

A Growing Market

Once the Amplify store opens, it will become the second dispensary in Painesville Township, joining the existing Bloom dispensary located at 382 Blackbrook Road. Township officials have already approved zoning for a maximum of two adult-use marijuana facilities, which include dispensaries, processors, and cultivators. With Amplify’s approval, that limit has officially been met.

This development reflects broader state trends. Recreational marijuana dispensaries officially opened in Ohio in August 2024, but not every dispensary is equipped or licensed to serve recreational customers. Only those with a dual-use license can legally sell to both medical patients and adults without a medical card.

The Road to Opening

The Painesville Township Zoning Commission approved Amplify’s site plan and architectural review on March 10, and the Board of Zoning Appeals granted the necessary variances the next day. With local approvals in place, all eyes are now on county permitting and construction progress, which will determine whether the dispensary opens in late 2025 or early 2026.

Amplify’s planned drive-thru pick-up lanes will function like pharmacy-style windows, designed solely for online order pick-ups, not in-person sales. This format, already successful in the company’s Columbus location, is part of their commitment to efficient service and community-friendly operations.

“Very much looking forward to being able to open up in the township,” Caraballo said. “We look forward to opening a very professional-looking building and being a good partner for the township.”

A Sign of Progress in Ohio’s Evolving Marijuana Industry

The addition of another dual-use dispensary in Northeast Ohio is a clear sign that the marijuana industry is growing rapidly across the state. More communities are welcoming dispensaries into traditional retail zones, helping destigmatize marijuana and improve access for both patients and adult-use customers.

Still, while recreational legalization is a major step forward, medical marijuana patients continue to have the most comprehensive, cost-effective access to regulated products.

With dispensaries like Amplify expanding into more cities, Ohio residents now have more options than ever when it comes to marijuana access. But if you want to skip the 10% recreational tax, enjoy higher purchase limits, receive exclusive discounts, and gain priority access, getting a medical marijuana card is still the smartest move.
